Drugs Box

The Forest of Dean Crime & Disorder Partnership has provided the Youth Service with a Drugs Box.

The Box contains 21 placebo drugs, all carefully researched and hand crafted to ensure an exact replica of the real drug is created, without the associated risks of the real substance being introduced.

The Box also contains information on the drugs, their effects, the paraphernalia associated with the drugs, street names and their risks

The Box is available to youth groups in the Forest of Dean; to undertake drugs education and prevention work with their young people.

Gloucestershire Information Update - response required

As part of a Gloucestershire County Council project (three years ago) we collected information from a number of agencies who ran activities for young people. This was fed into a searchable database that now needs replacing.

We plan to launch a brand new web site for young people in Gloucestershire very soon and want to make sure that your details are correct.

Please follow the link below to enter your details on our system, or

if you prefer you can contact Leisa Taylor,

email: Leisa.taylor@prospects.co.uk or tel: 01452 426900.

Leisa is often out of the office but please leave a message.

Emerge

What a success.
What talent we have in the Forest.

On Sunday 25th April, at the Forest Theatre 60 young people from youth groups across the Forest came together to stage Emerge. This showcase event was put on by the Forest Youth Forum, so young people had the opportunity to perform in public. Forum members, applied to the Youth Opportunity Fund to cover the cost of putting the show on, they also compared the show and sold refreshments, sold programmes and organised a collect for Forest Pulse, which raised £200.

The acts who performed included Beautiful Disaster who play numbers by Coldplay, Bill Withers and the Killers. The VorteX Crew followed, and performed a street dance piece called ‘The Unknown’. Next up was Engage Youth Circus, with  their aerial hoop, acrobalance, and diabolo.

Laura  Price from Newent then performed Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O’Conner.  Next came Inspiration from Newent Youth Centre with  their dance routine. To complete the first half a new trio called sax Appeal performed Dave Brubeck’s Take Five and the Pink Panther Theme.

The second half start with Forest Pulse’s Inclusive dance group, who performed a piece created by them at their weekly sessions. Peas in a Pod, a three piece group from Newent, then performed Magic by Colbie Caillat. Found in the Forest youth theatre then performed a newly created drama piece. Next on the stage was the Candi Dance Troupe, and the evening was round off by Ellie Higgs sing two numbers.

Who needs Britain's got talent when we have such talented young people here in the Forest.

Valuing Young People

Award Criteria

All nominees must have taken part in volunteering that benefits the community of the Forest of Dean between August 2009 and August 2010. We would also like to know how much impact their work had and if they have had to overcome any barriers to achieve this.  They should live and volunteer in the Forest.

The nominations will be assessed by a nominated panel that will include young people, in order to award different levels according to the impact and achievements gained. Those whom the panel feel have made a significant difference to their community and the lives of others or who have achieved significant personal development through their volunteering, will be invited to attend an award ceremony in on Friday 15th October. For nine of the young people there will be awards of Bronze, Silver or Gold. Although we may not be able to invite all nominees to attend the ceremony, all will receive a certificate in recognition of their hard work.

All nominations will be assessed against the same criteria and scored accordingly. All will be eligible for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards but this year we are also introducing Sponsored Awards around the themes of Environment, Carers, Participation, Sport and Community Confidence. Some examples of activities that might merit a sponsored award are:

Climate Change Champions Award supported by the LSP Environment Group recognises and celebrates the work done by an individual or group that has made an impact in response to climate change within the Forest of Dean

Carers: Volunteering to care for others, either relatives, friends or through a specific organisations activities etc.

Participation: Being involved in the management of community groups or activities etc.

Sport: Volunteering to coach peers or at younger clubs or groups etc.

Safer Communities: Had a positive impact across any age group, by making people feel safer, reducing the fear of crime or restoring community confidence.

Other volunteering might include: Helping to run activities at youth clubs and groups; being on a Youth Forum or Youth Parish Council; Helping to run an event; fundraising for children and young people’s equipment or activities; dog walking, shopping or gardening for an older person; befriending or supporting another young person who needs additional help; getting involved in local projects that make a difference to the community. There will be lots of other things too where a young person gives up their own time to help others.
