Mend

KIDS - Do you want to be fitter, healthier and more confident? You can do all this and make new friends when you join the free health and fitness clubs for 7-13 year old children above their ideal weight. Sainsburys are sponsoring a club in your area.

Local parents who want to improve their families' health are urged to sign up to the Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do it! (MEND) programme, which will be run free of charge by trained professionals.

Families will take part in fun activities and learn about healthy eating, so they can carry on the good work at home. All that’s needed is a commitment to come along twice a week for ten weeks.

The sessions aim to improve children's fitness, physical activity levels, nutrition and self-esteem. The focus is on simple and effective techniques, which are designed to help improve children’s overall diet and activity patterns.

The nutrition activities include a Food Fest, healthionnaire quiz and healthy eating supermarket store tour. For the physical activity element of the programme, the Youth Sport Trust provide exercise trainers to run sessions which include activities such as fun games, dance, martial fitness and circus moves.

Venue locations are as follows:
